PEMA – Packaging MADE IN GERMANY – for over 30 years at the main site in Syke

PEMA Verpackung GmbH produces a wide variety of carrier bags, big bags, agricultural and film packaging according to individual customer requirements. PEMA has been working with VIEBROCK since 2005 and uses the SelectLine merchandise management system.

The steady growth and expansion of the site made digital working methods in the warehouse desirable, and this was implemented with Viebrock in 2022.

Mr. Christof Raake, Managing Director of PEMA Verpackung GmbH, was happy to answer questions about the implementation of the project.

VIEBROCK: Mr. Raake, what was the initial situation and what problems had to be overcome in the warehouse?

Mr. Raake: Until then, we worked with a lot of slips of paper. For each incoming truck, there was a stack of slips of paper and for each customer order, there was a slip of paper with the goods to be retrieved. The challenge was to digitize all storage and retrieval operations in the warehouses with high-bay and block storage systems.

VIEBROCK: How was a solution defined?

Mr. Raake: After the telephone discussion, a Viebrock employee came to us in Syke to experience the conditions on site and the practical work.
The current way of working and the wishes, goals and the way to achieve them were then set out in a specification.
The implementation was then to be carried out by programming an app. The warehouses were visualized so that the tablet shows which storage locations are empty and which items are located there. By selecting the location, the goods are booked in or out and the data is transferred to the merchandise management system.

Mr. Raake: After developing the app, the employee came back to our premises to show the employees how to use it and to record further requests and changes, which were then implemented at short notice.

VIEBROCK: What is your conclusion and that of your employees? Was the purchase worthwhile?

Mr. Raake:The employees are delighted. They save an enormous amount of time and no more mistakes are made. The goods are booked in or out at the storage location. All in all, efficiency has increased considerably. The investment has definitely paid off.
