SelectLine will discontinue support for “Windows 8” and for “Windows 10 smaller version 1607” with the 2020/21 release.
“Windows 8.1” is still supported until further notice.
This means that SelectLine programs such as merchandise management or accounting can no longer be installed or updated on “Windows 8” or “Windows 10 smaller 1607”.
The reasons are complex:
Various components of our software make it necessary to update to .NET version 4.8. However, this .NET version is no longer fully supported by Microsoft on the above discontinued operating systems. A complete overview of which Windows operating systems support .NET 4.8 can be found at:
https://learn.microsoft.com/de-de/dotnet/framework/get-started/system-requirements
Furthermore, Windows 10 versions before “Windows 10 1607” have already reached their end of support by Microsoft in 2017 and even earlier. It is therefore in the interest of every user to no longer use the corresponding Windows versions (security issue).
SelectLine recommends using the latest Windows 10 version.
Nothing will change for the Windows Server operating systems for the time being.
Furthermore, Microsoft SQL Server 2014 will be discontinued next year. The use of modern and new SQL server functions will make it necessary in 2021 to require Microsoft SQL Server 2016 as the new minimum version for the SelectLine programs. We will of course announce an exact version in good time.
